Picked this colony up this morning and was curious about whether its a Dendro or Sun Coral. Most of the sun corals I have seen around here

almost look like sea mats. Any info is appreciated.

It was getting neglected big time at the LFS. They weren't spot feeding it and its quite receded, but I figured since the color was still there it may be ok. Hopefully once it acclimates it will perk up a bit and I can start feeding the heck out of it.

Man that's an amazing colony! I though I had something with 7 heads lol

They had 2 earlier in the week but when I went today this was the last one. I am glad I picked it up, but hope it plumps up some and gets back to full health

Two more this size? I have to ask how much it was. You can PM me if you want.

since it was neglected put it in a topper-ware and put some cyclopeeze (the frozen type not the dry) and swirl it around every soo often. repeat this every day for about a week.. this should increase their response time to having food in the water.. then you should be able to target feed it in the tank..

$55. I couldn't leave it in the store. Even if it was a sun colony and not dendro. Open hand sized colony. I just hope it can recover from the LFS.

Geez! What a deal. I hope everything works out for with it. It appears to be healthy to me. Mine look like that during the day. I am working on switching them over from being nocturnal. at night they open up nicely. I'm sure these will as well. Great score!

Thanks Loki, I'll post up new pics once it starts perking up and feeding.

Update... Picked up some cyclopeze (frozen) and they seem to be puffing out a bit and starting to accept some cyclops and a few live brine.

Day 2 of cyclops feeding... puffing up alot but no tentacle extension... Some of the heads look about the size of a dime.

Looks great! Mine took almost 5 days before I saw real polyps. Also I'm not sure if your doing this already but take the liquid of the food and spray over the colony and then wait a few minutes to feed the substance part of the food.

Thanks. Today I kept it in the feeding tank for about an hour and a half. Every 20 minutes or so I would turkey baste the water to recirculate the cyclops and also dust the polyps. I can't wait to see this thing all opened up.

Good job. Keep it up. The payoff is wayy worth the effort and time.

Paul are you talking about a black sun coral?
