i have a 120 that's 24" deep. I'm running 2x 36" current orbit lights. I wanted to add a little T5 lighting. Anyone know if these sunblasters will help grow Lps and softies!? I have all Lps with the exception of 1 green poccilipora frag. Here's a pic of the T5 from eBay.

I am a very firm advocate for T5 lighting but to be honest you will be losing out on a lot of PAR if you don’t have high quality reflectors.

Do yourself a favour and have a look at what reflectors you can pick up to improve the unit.

FWIW you can pick up any T5 fixture from a hardware shop and retrofit some great reflectors.

I tried one and decided I didn't like what t5 did for the light in my tank. I tried several different t5 bulbs and was still not happy. And I'd be happy to sell the 36" Sun Blaster fixture and 3 t5 bulbs (plus an led bulb made for the fluorescent fixture!). I only used it for about 4 weeks!

I ended up getting 2 led strip fixtures. I added an all blue strip with a dimmer at the very back edge of the tank (just inside the eurobrace) and a half white and half blue strip with 2 channels and 2 dimmers at the front edge of the tank.

I was MUCH happier. With dimmers you can control how bright the additional light is. The t5 light just wiped out and overpowered the main led fixture. Also, with the white and blue strip in front, I could adjust for how warm or cool I wanted the additional light to be without buying multiple new t5 bulbs! This also accomplished 2 other goals. First, the front led reduced the shadows from the primary led fixture almost, not quite like the t5, but close enough for me. And secondly, with the tank being slightly more white at the front and slightly more blue at the back than the primary led fixture, the entire tank looks like it's more than just 2' from front to back. It's just an optical illusion that our brain sees the bluier water as being further away (as in scuba diving).

I have the same exact sun blasters and love them. I added 2 - one on each side of my razor led lights.

They do have reflectors and I run ATI bulbs in mine. I imagine if your just wanting them for supplemental like me you will be fine with softies and lps.

I have some acropora as well so wanted a little extra light spread to help prevent shadowing and also add some actinic.

Good luck if you decide to try them out. They also come with mounts that are low profile and easy to connect. I actually use wire to hang them on my razor since they are light which is nice.

I have 2 48 inch sunblasters to supplement my tank. I think they are doing a good job. I have 2 ATI blue plus bulbs. Everything seems to be growing except a couple of small acro frags so I think they will support lps and softies.

I use the reflectors that came with the unit, are there any better ones that u can use for this unit out there?
