I heard that sun dial snails ONLY eat palythoa and zoas. Is this a simple solution to rid them from my tank for good?

I dont want any damage to any of my acropora, scolyemia or mini-maxi carpet anemone.

I have a 16 gallon tank so was thinking of putting just one in to start.

Any issues or sound like a good way to finally remove my palythoa??

Great question! I would give it a go and just watch very carefully.

I had them (un wanted) a few years ago, they only went for my zoas and not the palys, good question, hopefully someone has a more definitive answer.

Lol I have the lfs on the lookout for one for me I was hoping to rid me of my paly problem!

Thank you all. I will give it a shot but now dealing with the harder question -Where to get one???

Still on the prowl.

If anyone finds one as a hitchhiker I’ll be glad to take it off your hands before you kill or toss it.

Forgot to mention I was able to connect with Julian Sprung and he said it should do no damage to any other coral on my list, even the mini maxi carpet anemone. Hopefully helpful if anyone else decides to try for a similar situation.

Sundial snails will eat zoanthids, palythoas not protopalythoas..the 2 palythoas I just named are totally two different animals for the most part..Protos are pretty much way more venomous with palytoxin than the two latter ones....

Figures, I have the protopalythoa.
:(

I’ve seen this same topic a few years back, people were super gluing fishing line to the shell and holding the sundial snail in place on the colonies they wanted gone with glass cleaning magnets. It seemed to encourage the snail to eat only where it could go.

Maybe some hope still? Mentions palythoa and protopalythoa.....

If I can get the nems of the rock the palys are on I'm soaking it in bleach and getting rid of them all in one shot. I'e been waiting 6-7 months to get a sundial...
