I had a friend with a 55 gallon and he destroyed it.. He had no idea what he was doing and then went on a 2 week trip with out having anyone watch it. Well my question is he threw the tank out side the water evaporated and it once was live sand he offered it to me for my upgrade. Should I take it? How do I clean it good? Is it dead? Lol I'm full of them. My sand wasn't live, mine is like really tiny crushed coral and his is super fine... I forgot what mine was called lol

It should be ok if you clean it. I found the best way to clean sand is put a handful in an aquarium net and rinse it under the tap. Swoosh the sand around in the net and when the water runs clear it's half clean :) just make sure anything bigger than the holes in the net that you don't need is removed like old snails and stuff.
Then dry it out again and your good to go. I do this with beach sand and it work well for me. The trick is to dry it properly and clean it properly.

Thank you so much! I'm excited now at first I had some doubts.

No worries :)
Some people will advise against using it, but I've never had an issue doing this and plenty of people do it. After all, it's essentially dry sand now.
If your up to it, baking the sand in the oven supposedly works too. I've never done this so I can't comment on how well it actually works, but my LFS advised me to try it with dry base rock. It dries it and kills everything possible before you wash it.

I will lay sand on a tarp and let it dry out good and it's like new again. When i put it in a tank that's new i add a bunch of kalk so the ph is thru the roof. Just help the old sand like new again.
