Hi I am upgrading from my Red Sea Max 130C (29g display/34g total) to a Red Sea Reefer 250 in a few years (more time to think and plan through the better!) At first when I transferred from fresh water to reefs I thought the "plug and play" max series from Red Sea would be very easy to start off with. This was true until I tried slightly more advanced equipment and livestock. The only corals I can get growing are hammers, Kenya Tree Leathers, and surprisingly Black and Yellow Sun Coral. I now wish on receiving ideas, opinions, and experiences from fellow reefers for a steady updated timeline on the progression on the future Reefer 250.

|Equipment Plan|

Protein Skimmer: Nyos Quantum 120

Lighting: Undecided/most likely one Radion 30 G4 Pro or 2-3 Radions 15 G4 Pro

Media Reactor(s): ?

Media: ?

Rocks: ?

Substrate: ?

Wave Maker/Power Head: ?

(DC?) Return Pump: ?

Other Unmentioned Equipment: ?

Live Stock: Too early to think about but I do dream of them

Shrimp, depending on your build timeframe, your best bet will be to continue to read, stay up-to-date with the developments in the hobby and narrow down equipment closer to the time of going live. Products / hardware change in this hobby change frequently so picking a skimmer now has somewhat limited utility. Also, check out current build threads to see what folks are using for ideas.

Yes the frequent change of equipment in this hobby is fairly rapid so I check updates on specific companies from time to time for even a teaser of a new model of a product. This is exactly like buying an dream car or smart phone only to see a new better model come to the market a few months later lol. I did hear about the Nyos Quantum 120 being an absolute beast in other Reefer 250 builds and is dead quiet in doing so. But is possible a new "god" skimmer will appear in the market later on down the path and rise higher than other skimmers due to performance.
