I am looking for a colorful fish that will actively swim out in the open to add some movement to my tank. I have a 24x24x20 cube and was wondering if the Sunrise Dottyback is an active swimmer or will just hide in the rock work. Any other suggestions of free swimming fish for that tank size would be appreciated. I currently have two clowns a flame hawk and a very small yellow tang. (He will be moved to a bigger tank when he is a little bigger)

You might want to also consider the Arabian dottyback: Pseudochromis aldabraensis. As long as you have some caves and sufficient rockwork it will swim in the open much of the time. Somewhat aggressive toward smaller fish and some inverts, but should be compatible with fish you already have. Great personality and very colorful IMHO

Thank you for the suggestion I will look into that, is that also called the Neon Dottyback?

You have orange, red and yellow colors, you need blue or green :)
I have this fish and no issues being aggresive- Chrysiptera springeri;
Active swimmer.
I agree I need something in the blue/green color family. Purple would also look nice.

Yes, and you can find ones that are captive bred which is another plus in terms of health, etc.

Another other ideas out of the dottyback family?
Orchids are beautiful if you're looking for other colors.

May also want to consider Royal Grammas and Blackcap Basslets: (Gramma melacara) unless you particularly want a dottyback. RGs are pretty close to the perfect reef fish with spectacular color. I keep one with clowns and a long nose hawk.

I was thinking the same thing. Orchid have great temperaments as well, very good community fish, for a dottyback.

I wanted a orchid but was told they will hide in the rock work most of the time. Would I be able to have both an orchid and a sunrise if they were added at the same time?

I wouldn't add multiple dottyback. Mine was out front and center after a couple months -- but that's just my experience. I've had a few over the years that were the same.

Awesome I will pick up an orchid today, any other fish around the same size you would recommend?

perhaps a yellow watchman goby and a flame hawk. Lots of color and personality in that mix!

In a 24x24 you're very limited -- perhaps a possum wrasse would fit. They're really underrated fish in my opinion, a great fish!

I will look at one, do you think a melanurus wrasse would work in my tank? My wife saw one at the LFS that she fell in love with and now wants one.
