I started with a small frag of sunset monti and it's growing very fast and stings anything it comes into contact with. I noticed this morning that the base of my oregon tort has rtn'd due to the stinging. I find it interesting because no other montis in my tank sting the sps, just the opposite happens. I'm trying to figure out whether I should remove it, which would require taking out a bunch of the rocks. Here's my question...do the sps, after getting stung initially, ever develop an imunity to the sting, or will the monti just continue doing damage?

That particular Monti has a very potent sting and will wipe out anything in its path IME.

I'm beginning to think of it almost as a pest! The only thing so far that it hasn't killed is GSP - great, lol. Mine has taken over a very large rock and I would really like to find something that would co-exist with it but so far no luck. It's killed several acros and right now I keep breaking it off where it wants to plate out over a couple of small caps. If I were you I would take at least some of it out and isolate it to just one rock if you can.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to remove as much as I can because I've got a ton of acros and I don't want it killing anything else. What other montis have this powerful of a sting?

Glad you posted this. I have a Sunset Monti approaching my Oregon Tort and my Hawkins Echinata. I had no idea it was that aggressive. I was able to break the Monti colony off the rock and now have it in a safe spot. Thanks.

I have a bunch of Montis and they are lightweights compared to my Sunset Monti. I now have it hemmed in with Pavona, Rics and Acans, so it's kept in check.

wow nice to know that monti is below my two acros ill keep an eye on it to prevent it from growing near them
