I often let some morning sun shine on my reef, especially in the winter months.

Does anyone else let some sunshine in?

around 70% of my nano receives about 3 hours of direct sunlight everyday. The corals on the side with the sun seem much happier and I’ve not had an algae issues

I have not had algae troubles either, not saying it will work for everyone but I think a little sunlight it good for the reef.

Started letting a few hours of sun into my tanks, BTAs have been growing much faster, nothing else seems to have even noticed. No algae issues either.

Missus is even happier as the role of curtain monitor no longer exists in the house!

(This is British sun mind... think cloudy day in almost any other part of the world)

Same here! The left side of my reef gets the morning sunshine for a few hours and it's been nothing but good.

Steve Garrett has a fully outdoor system in SoCal. You can go to his place and buy frags direct from him. I spent half a day there once just chatting about his system. Google Garrett's Acropolis.

That is awesome I wish I was smart enough to live somewhere warm.

In the late fall/winter my EVO gets about 1.5 hours of pretty bright Sun each AM between about 8-9:30, just before the lights come on. The coral on that side of the tank seems to love it. I do have to scrape some extra algae off the glass, but it’s not a biggie.
