Super bummed; clownfish will jump out!

Woke up this morning and found my female ocellaris clownfish dead on the floor my tank is covered except for a small area in the back of the tank and this is where she jumped out. I am so bummed! I am going to cover the little strip that is currently uncovered. How do I best go about getting a new clown and introducing it to my system?

If the one that died was indeed your female, the replacement should be easy. Whether you end up with a new male or a new female, they should get along OK, as long as you take care to get it before your male turns female. If you want to be ultra-sure, get a very young one which has not had a chance to turn female; then your existing clown can safely take that role.

Please quarantine any new additions for 30 days. If disease appears, treat and reset the 30-day timer.

Sorry to hear.I lost my female the same way. she was around 12 years old or more. I still have my male.but I think it's changing to a female even though he's alone. He"s twice the size.

Lone males usually change to female.

I plan on picking up a small juvenile in the next few days and am assuming my current male will become the dominant female.

oh my. Sorry to hear. I didn't even know clowns jumped. I have a glass top on my 30g. Some plastic in the back where I've cut some holes for the equipment. Hope you feel better. I'd be upset if one of my new clowns died! I just got mine this past weekend.

I was surprised also that clowns jump.. I had mine scale the overflow and end up stuck in filter sock before I noticed. I would have thought the purple fire fish or wrasse would have done this before the clown. Mine was the female of the pair also. I have yet to replace her yet. I was going to get a slightly different version in the same spieces. Say a black/white one to go with the normal orange/black. But was not sure if you can mix like that.

Yes, but you PROBABLY won't want to mix species. Color morphs you can...and perculas and ocellaris may get along.

I would venture to say probably, because they're both around the same aggression level and I've heard of perc/occy hybrids. Be careful, though.

There are a few different colors of occies and I would think you'd be safest sticking with that.
