I have a power head that the shaft on the ball joint snapped in half about a year ago. I used super glue a couple of times and let it sit for a day. It seemed to hold and none of my fish died. It has now broken off again. This time, I drilled small holes on each side of the shaft and placed a steel pin inside to add strength and filled it with glue. My question is. Is there any risk to having this in your tank? Will it deteriorate in saltwater over time? Poison? How long should I let it cure before I put it into the water?

Is it a Jbj ocean stream os-1?? I had this same problem a year ago, except when I fixed it I had a nice sized nylon screw. I put that threw the back of the power head to screw into the ball joint. Hasn't broke again since.

To answer your original question, yes a steal pin can harm your tank and will definitely corrode over time. I'm sure you have an extra nylon screw laying around?
