Hey reefers!
I pulled a frag of my Caulastraea out today because it had a little aiptasia growth from the LFS. Read in the forums to pull it out, scrape it, then superglue where the aiptasia was. Well, I did that and found a few spots that had aiptasia so I decided to coat the whole base in superglue. Did I kill this little guy in doing that? Or is it just ***** that it was out of the water for about 3-4 minutes then wrestled back into it's plug hole?

They are pretty hardy probably just mad from being messed with.. were the aiptasia on the coral skeleton or the frag plug? It’s a good practice to remount new frags on fresh plugs before placing in your system to help eliminate any possible pest.

Thanks, I thought it was just mad, it had sweeper tentacles out a little bit after my post. It was on the base of the skeleton, not on the plug. What would be the best way to remount a coral? Just pop it off glue and all then reglue the glue?

Thanks again for replying!

If you have a coral saw you might remove much of the coral skeleton to eliminate the aptasia growth surfaces. I've cut a few LPS frags to just below the living flesh and can't fully recommend it because the skeleton tends to crack when you cut too close.

If the skeleton does crack, simply gluing the remaining attached skeleton parts to a piece of live rock has allowed the endangered frag to survive and thrive for me when this has happened.

Edit, Oh, and the superglue was covering the little skeleton fragments when I glued them to the rock (I hate hitchhikers too!) and the corals did recover incredibly rapid.

Corals = Bubble & Hammer.

Appreciate the advice, I definitely wasn't the biggest fan of the frag plug that they came on, there is literally one spot within 100 mile radius that carries frags where I'm at. (Northern CA) their selection isn't terrible but most of the tanks aren't as well maintained as they should be.
