SUPER HIGH TEMP.

IMHO great suggestions have been made, but the best ones are taking off the tops and running AC. Simplicity is key for me. Having to constantly freeze water and add to my tank on a daily basis is something I could not do successfully. Also with that method you will have pretty decent swings in temperature. Fans do work, but then you will need a decent size ATO reservoir to make sure the evaporated water is getting replenished, otherwise you will get a salinity spike. If ATO fails dumping a large reservoir into your tank then you may be looking at a flood. AC with no tops will be a very easy way to maintain temperature and will be cheaper than running a chiller. Just my thoughts. Also with the fish you have coming, QT is key in this hobby. I have seen parasitic infections wipe out an entire tank in a matter of days.

All True - Get a cheap room air conditioner - or a portable air cooler for that room if you need to. Unless your relative humidity is below 30% (ie you live in the desert) fans will not help enough from what I've read. A chiller for a tank that size seems like overkill. The smaller tank you have the larger problem you will have. - ie my guess is that your temperature is not 86-90 degrees 24 hours /day. At night its probably cooler - but you will have large swings in temp which will be harmful to anything - fish , coral, etc.

And understanding the costs for running A/C and the high electric bills you have, You can through a thermostat run intervals focusing on the peak part of day when it is hottest via timer

I have a temperature controller with a fan on one side and a heater on the other. It gets the job done, although, the fan has to run a long time before it gets the temp down. So while it does work, it is not very good at getting the job done.

I agree; a chiller for this tank is overkill. I mean a chiller on such a small tank.. I wonder if it is possible over-chill?
