super invasive sponge?

I saw this thing 2 days ago and it was about the size of a quarter and I didn't think much about it. I've had plenty of sponges come and go and never cause any issues. But when I saw it today, I had to do something before it took over.
It looks like a sponge to me but I've never known of a sponge to grow that quickly.
I was going to expose it to air for a bit and see what happened but ended up getting a little more aggressive and doused with peroxide. I'm almost sure that will take care of it but it also spread to the bases of a few nearby chalices. I also removed them and carefully painted on some peroxide.
I have a feeling I did not get it all and this won't be the end of it.
Has anybody ran into this??

no. But are you carbon dosing or using any trace element supplements? large Phyto?

Best thing to do for removal is scrape it off OUT of the tank, Rise VERY well. Rinse again.

Do you have a picture of it in the water or of the other colony?

do you regularly test parameters? any odd drop in ammoina or nitrate?

I will see what it looks like in the morning and get some pics in the water, if there's anything left. It was more of a very light pink underwater.

My guess is some kind of overgrowing mat tunicate?

I would get rid of it.

No ideas but definitely agree with getting rid of it. Good luck with getting it all taken care of. Hopefully someone will have better ideas on it.

Try to get it to grow on your back wall instead. A sponge backround would be really unique.

Sequester it away from your other rocks if you can, but I say let it grow. I like weird stuff in my reef.

I'd soak the entire rock in a peroxide bath for 5mins. I've done this with Zoa frags with no ill effects to the Zoas at all.

Same here, if it plays well with others, it stays. And even if it doesn't, it pretty much still stays [emoji28].
