Currently, I’m running two XF350 Gyres and looking to add some flow for the corners and to help with dead spots in general. I like the Vortech MP40s, but their cost is many times that of the cheaper power heads like Jebao (watched Fish Of Hex and his Jebao video). They are cheaper and there are quite a few different models to choose from. I am still in decision mode here and am also comparing more expensive models, but not sure I should even consider the MP40 when this isn’t primary flow. Thoughts on everything mentioned and things I didn’t mention? I do have anemones, so a proper way to shield them is a must (Gyres included netting which gets clogged quickly, but does work).

What coral do you have? You gotta watch too much flow.

Dead spots are quickly cured by blowing off your entire reef surface rock by hand using a handheld powerhead once a week.

You can have 17 powerheads pointing in every direction and you'll STILL have deadspots and crevices in the rock where organics will settle no matter what random flow you have going on

The ONLY solution is to get in there with a handheld powerhead once a week

I am talking about corners and other spaces where detritus builds up on the sand, not holes/crevices in rock work.

Stationary powerheads aren't powerful enough to reach every square inch of a tank. There will always be deadspots.

Using a handheld powerhead to sweep the tank once a week is like using a leaf blower. Getting enough organics into the water column so it eventually makes it to the skimmer.

Yes it is, but I’m not using a powerhead around my tank on the sand and creating a sandstorm in a 29” tall tank.

I thought I was the only one that does this.

Jebaos are garbage imho. I'd look at tunze personally they have options that won't break the bank and are very reliable. The intake cover is very tight grating, the flow is as advertised, & they adjust very easily in any direction.
