Supposed to have been wwc yellow tip austera

Ive never got any other colors out of it. Had it around a year now, and also not the “fast” grower wwc yellowtips is said to be. Rather short and chunky, thickly branched.
No green in the base, never any yellow or any colored growth tips. She is a blue/purple acro no matter where i place her. High light, low light, less flow, more flow. I have stuck it right in the middle of the tank and have just stopped trying to make change.
What does it look like to yall?
Im thinking a blue tort of some type, but my other tort grows extremely fast comparatively.
Ill try to find a photo of it as a frag, when i first got it.

The seller is fairly reputed, but hasnt answered emails about it.... ill also find photos of the other similar corals offered for sale from that vendor for comparison.
Id just like to have a better idea what it is.

That doesn't look like a yellow tip to me. Typically a very fast grower. This colony is 2.5 years old. I started with a one inch frag from WWC. It's larger than a basketball. Typically I can see a lot of green on the branches in between the blue. Very pronounced yellow tips.

You are going to need good amounts of red, green and yellow light to get the strong yellow tips. If you have this and still no yellow, then maybe it is just a variety like Miyagi Tort, which is still really cool. All of these are A. Austera and can get really beautiful under strong daylight type of lighting.

Ive got many other acro in the same area. I have 12 other varieties that all look as they should, and the ones that are colored different in higher/lower light are colored like they are in higher light. My pc rainbow is all red. A red planet down near the bottom that is mostly red, very little green at the base. Im pretty confident light is good.
The more i look at photos of wwc yellow tip the less i think it could be one. It does have similar corallite symmetry to austera.... but just never see green anywere or yellow tips, and is short ‘n’ stout in growth. I have fast growing acro too, they quadruple the growth of this stocky branched one.
I dont care that i didnt get the coral i expected, would just be nice to know what i got...
I may just send more emails to the vendor and be “that guy” until i receive an answer.... Assuming they even know at this point....

Check out photos of Becker or Miyagi tort and see if those are close. Cool corals, just not a yellow tip.

Here’s a pic of mine. Even when I take a frag the tip grows back yellow. The frags never lose the yellow tip for me either. It had a yellow tip at 200 and 300 par. My best advice…although it doesn’t help you now… only buy a frag with a yellow tip. It may help others who read this.

I ordered it online from east coast to here in west coast, im sure the seller has true yellowtip but im thinking there was a mix up. So, yeah, luck of the draw.
That order was delayed a day from the shipping company as well. Lost 3 out of 6 acro and a chalice from that order.
Maybe the stress of the long shipping knocked all the green and yellow out of the coral...(joking) its been a year now
But that is a lesson for me in getting local vs the potential shipping risk and wysiwyg debacles.

I do have a fast growing tort that has green in the base and light yellow/green tips. Have a post about it on r2r somewhere ill try to find. Got it from a closing shop as a brown nub. Now its awesome and the fastest growing acro i have. You can see it as a young frag, just as it started to color up, in the bottom of one of the pics i posted here.
Again, i dont mind that the one in question is blue/purple and doesnt have other colors/highlights, i just wish i knew what to call her.
Ill look at more pictures of miyagi and becker to reference.

The vender i bought the acro from does have a miyagi tort also. So that is a possibility. Branches are much thinner than whatever i have though.
This one has branches thick like a stag but grows so slow compared to the 3 types of stag i have. ( stuber, green slimer, and one from Coral Collectors named Jack the Beanstalk)
I cant find too many photos of the becker tort. The ones ive seen do match colors of mine very well though. It seems like a fairly hefty branched coral also.

Ok I want to jump in here. Do my pictures look like the same thing? The guy I got it from couldn't tell me what it is. When I have had them happy they get a bright green base with blue new growth and bright green tips. Unfortunately they haven't been as happy recently.

Sorry to hear that. I believe they did mix it up also. Nothing wrong with ordering online. Just stick to those that cover shipper delays or mix ups.

Agree. Im just commenting on the risk. If your not there in person who knows what could be bagged and boxed, and also wouldnt generally get stuck 2 days coming home from lfs!
I do order most livestock from online, dont have a good local shop

I have seen alot of tortuosa and also hear of many austera that have very similar colors and can have yellow tips.
I read in Corals of the World that true torts keep the polyps mostly retracted during the day and out at night. FWIW
what we see and deal with most often are common use and clumping together of species names for marketing purposes.
