just put in the sure flow 1600 on my MJ 1200 with the 2100gph prop and BAMMMMM!!!! flow is kicking it in my tank... that was just one. Not sure if I want to put it on the other powerhead..
Is there such thing as too much flow?

I always shoot for between 50x to 100x turnover in my tanks, I currently have a 20g high with 80x turnover in it and my corals love it and they are a mix of everything. So I guess to answer your question you'll need to figure out your total water gph and then divide it by your water volume in your DT.

I think it's unlikely that we can come close to the oceans actual flow!! ever felt a wave crashing you? imagine it crashing into a reef crest constantly?? powerful stuff!! that being said the flow created by the waves is dynamically different from what most aquarium pumps will provide for example your MJ will only produce the same current at the same speed with no intervals and this can be stressful for a coral is for example is pointed directly at it! If you could get or have a reefkeeper you could set both moded MJ one on each side and use the wave-making function to alternate the currents in your tank to resemble more natural environment your corals will appreciate it :) I used the JBJ pulse duo for this same purpose with 2 moded MJ a while back. It's worth noting that the mod really makes the pump much more efficient!

Chris, I believe I'm getting about 40x turnover in my tank. Almost to your specs but not quite. It just looks as if my BTA is hanging on to a stop sign being blown sideways and he's at the bottom of the tank with no powerheads aiming at him.. afraid he may move..

I have an RKL and it does have wavemaking capabilities but I read that the sureflow mod can get stripped at the prop shaft because of turning on and off and on and off like the wavemaker would. I don't have the PH aiming directly at any corals.

Yeah, The MJ mods can't be run on a wave makers. At least that's what the manual said...

I love how much better these pump are with the mod kit too!
