surface Cheato drying out in fug

I installed a Reef Crystals RSR350 sump so that I would have a large refugium for my RSR 350. I've noticed that in the fug section the Cheato at the very surface becomes discolored, even bleached. Is this because it sits slightly out of water and it's drying out, or is it being bleached from my H380 light? I'm worried thats it's breaking down and leaching nutrients back into the tank.

Also what settings do you have your light at?

There seems to be only 2 settings on the light Purple and Magenta. Mine is on Magenta

Probably a combination of things.
In my sump it does bleach out at the top and I think it's because of the intensity of the light and being exposed to air as it grows up out of the water.
I use a powerhead in refugium and I try to keep it pointed high enough to wash water over the top.
About once a week I'll rotate the entire mass around.
