So, rather stupid title, and question, but...

Since i cannot get rid of dynos, nutrients are alway too low, no matter how and what i feed..... and since is hard and very expensive to get products that raises no3-po4..... i figure that i suspend my chaeto, which is growing great, btw...

But, i don't want just to toss it in garbage, since is very difficult to get one, i was thinking of setting up small vessel, few litres, with light, and small pump, to keep water circulatin...

Is it possible to keep chaeto alive in such conditions, of course, occasional feeding is not a problem...

So, when i battle dynos, if needed, i have source of chaeto ready to be back in sump...

Or, is it not worth the try?

Tnx!

Thank you, i already reduced photo period to 10 hours, of course, no impact.

So, u suggest to leave it, and set lights over it to be run just 1-2 hours daily?

It’s up to you since it takes up space, but you’re correct, you can have lights on just an hour or two if it’s growing too much.

Well, space is not and issue, just trying to raise nutrients...

Ill try with 2 hours light schedule, and see what happens.

Thank you!

No problem! That’s the nice thing about it, you can play around with photoperiod from a minimal amount of time all the way to 24/7 depending on how much you need to export. Also can reduce/increase intensity of the light.

I dose this

I have a solution of 6 g of TSP to 1,500 ML of RODI and I dose 10 ML a day (spread over the day) into my 100 gallon net system. I have a wonderful 0.11 PO4 level at all times. If it fluctuates 0.01 PPM a week, it is an oddity.

At one point in time I disconnected my refugium from my tank because my chaeto was starting to die and adding the nutrients back to my tank. I just left it sitting in the stagnant water in my refugium with the light still coming on for 10 hours a day and many months later, even after the salinity went incredibly high from evaporation, most of the chaeto was still alive.
I actually recently started my refugium back up and just trimmed off the dead chaeto to get it started.
It’s hard to kill in my experience.

Very interesting, does it affect anything else? Ph, alk, CA, Nitrates ?
Does it only help to raise the po4 and keep it stable or it also help the reduce and keep it stable?

Talking about it being tough…. I sell it on eBay and here. Recently on eBay the same day I shipped the person wanted to return as they changed their mind. While not obligated to accept since I say no refund I said I would and following eBay’s process they had to ship it back (it’s all part of eBay’s automated process)

long story short I just got it back yesterday after being shipped from IA to CA and back… 2.5 weeks with areas in freezing weather in a ziploc bag. I was amazed when I opened it that was still green with no stink. I think it will survive which is a testament to how tough it is!

I use the exact same thing vs neophos from brightwell. It only raises phosphate. Nothing else major.

I have been told there is a diminims affect on sodium levels (obviously) but never I have seen or noticed. My chaeto strips everything out, I add back in what I need

Ok, i reduced lights to 2 hours, remove filter socks, reduced skimmer power....

Hope that this will increase nutrients a bit, to put dynos under control, at least.....

Yesterday testing, salifert test for no3 - no color change from clean water, jbl po4 test - no change in color....
