I have a question. Do you have to have to wait for the water to be clear to test the salinity? I have an automatic water change and my rodi will fill up my SW bin. It turns my autowater change off when it does this. When the bin is full I will go add salt and I can guestimate the cups that I need be sometimes I under and over not by much maybe a point. I will throw in a cup and wait for it clear a bit, check with hannah, throw in another check. How is the best way to do this??

You should because if you don’t the salt isn’t all the way dissolved. I test at different periods. There’s a reason the directions say to wait even with a heater the salt takes a little while to dissolve and if you just throw a freshly mixed batch of saltwater in the salinity will go up and undissolved salt particles will be in the tank…two things you don’t want.

Ok that makes sense. I am using red sea coral pro and dissolves pretty fast, but I turned my autowater change back on and it wasn't crystal clear, but pretty clear. My auto water change is only doing 1.5 gallons a day so I don't think it would be that big of deal if its not perfectly clear as I am not changing that much at a time

If you are talking about solids sitting on the bottom, yes, wait. If you are talking about fine cloudiness in the water (which may or may not ever fully dissolve), then I think the change in salinity if those fine particles did dissolve (or settle out) is not going to be detectable with typical hobby salinity equipment.

Thanks for the reply Randy
