So I'm on well water now, and my DI resin depletes (changes colors, and TDS increases) much faster than when I was on public/utility/city water. So I was thinking of swapping out 1 of my carbon filters for a second DI and then do the "rotation game" with the DI cartridges to help maintain 0 TDS (I have a 5 stage, so 4 "filter cartridges" and 1 membrane). I'm sure folks have done something like this before and I figured I'd ask how it worked out and if there's any "gotchas" I should look out for.

Thanks in advance for any guidance on this.

Yep will help. Or just get an add on canister with meter from BRS. You need the resin holder cartridge part anyways

Nope I'm on well water
first I have a 5 micron then thru membrane and turned carbon into di and than another di canister so far so good

Yeah, i was thinking about just adding on a canister too. But if the carbon is primarily there to remove chloramines that's added in for public water, then I figured I could just remove one of the carbon filters (since it has 2, a 5 micron and a 1 micron).

Thanks for replying!

Carbon can remove other toxins. Do you know whats in your well water?

Nope, not at all. I know it was tested to be "safe for drinking", but that doesn't really tell me much. I plan to keep a 1 micron carbon filter in, just remove the 5 micron and replace it with the extra DI cartridge.

Might be a co2 issue. What is the tds of the incoming water and the effluent?

I would not remove a carbon filter. As well as removing many contaminates, they also protect the ro membrane.
I started running through di resin really fast a while back.
I added a second di resin container and it really didn't make anything last any longer as the di resin depleted in the first container at the same speed.
Then I gave the 3 resin system ( anion, cation, and mixed bed containers) from BRS a shot and it seems to help.

I wouldn't remove the carbon filter either to save money on buying another canister. Just add on to the setup, carbon removes a whole host of things that might be in the water and compared to the other costs in the hobby it's pretty minimal.
