I initially started with 4 pieces of dry rock and they cycled with the tank. I am moving and considering completely swapping out all of the rocks due to bubble algae issues and an unknown white pieces growing on the rock. Is this a huge risk even if I use live rock or should i just scrub/clean what i have?

Thanks!

Well if u get lr you could potentially get even worse pest so I'd suggest manually removing the bubble algae and scrubbing off the sponges??

im hoping to be able to scrape it all off this weekend when i take all the rocks out. You think the white pests growing could be sponges?

I’m going to say that bubble algae is most likely going to show up regardless of what you do.

This probably isn’t the recommended course of action, but I try to either remove the bubbles manually or pop them when I see them. Once popped or removed, usually something else quickly grows on that spot and the bubbles don’t return.

Supposedly, popping bubble algae causes them to spread, but I haven’t noticed that to be the case.

For what it’s worth, it’s oddly satisfying to pop the things...

I do have one emerald crab and he is alright with the bubble algae but i dont think he knows what to do with the large bubbles. I have been trying to manually remove them and basically pop them off the rock and suck them up with a turkey baster lol but havent been super successful. Hoping when i pull the rocks out, i can get them clean.

I would just pick off the bubble algae when you move. It isn't such a big deal - not worth the time, expense, or risk of a cycle when you don't want one.
