Hello fellow reefers, I have a weird one for y’all. I have a super fine figi pink sand bed (in my 8 month old tank) that blows around like crazy when I turn my flow up flow anywhere near where it should be. I’ve been thinking about changing the sand bed to a larger grain . Now, I know there’s a ton of beneficial bacteria so I would want to cure my sand in a bucket prior to build up the bacteria. Anyone done this before? Also, what grain do you guys run on higher flow tanks that doesn’t look too bulky, thanks!

no need to cure it can be swapped for all dry sand if needed, only live rock bac matter, see this thread for bed swap examples

the most important prep for the new sand is to pre rinse it 100% cloud free

even if you rip out the entire sandbed from a ten year old reef, no recycle. Sandbed bacteria do not matter. BRS wasn’t able to safely remove their 160 sandbed due to skipping controls we apply here, namely light ramping.
