I just bought this thing from a fellow reefer. A few things he said have not been true so I need your help.

The skimmer was working but has stopped. I have taken it apart to clean and see if there is anything amiss. I have found that this skimmer no longer has the original Sicce PSK-2500 but instead has been replaced with the replacement SWC Xtreme 160 cone skimmer pump.

So I have tried to find a manual for this because I cannot get this to work either. So in the attached pictures is the pump taken apart. The has two rubber bushings that are on the ends, and everything is clean.

If I need to give up and replace the pump, which would you recommend?

have you tried plugging it in and then inserting the impeller? I have the Atman and that thing is a beast!!!!

160 Cones come with an atman 2500, and not the Sicce pump you were referring to. Everything that you have shown in the pic looks like it is in good working order and there is nothing missing. It might just be burned up. You can get a replacement from Luke at reef filtration.com

Atman 2500 Pump

I guess it is the atmann 2500, though it looks very similar to this unit and the replacement SWC Xtreme 160 cone skimmer pump.

When I tried it last night, I got it working but the flow was very poor.

DOWTISH Thanks for your opinion on the condition of the pump and the advice that it likely needs to be replaced.

MURFMAN Thanks for the endorsement of the Atmann. I guess I need to replace it.

What does it do when you plug it in? If it does nothing I would say its Burt up. Buy a new one it'll cost you more to fix it then it will to buy a new one.

Hey Craig, just got your email and order. What does the pump do when you plug it in? What water depth is it in? Looks like you have all the correct parts there so thats not the issue.

Recently while the pump was in the skimmer I could not tell if it were even working. I have video of when I purchased this set up and the skimmer was working then and recall tuning the skimmer after I installed it in my home. The water level was on the lower end of the range for this skimmer but still within range. I think 6.5"

Now that it was not working at all (no flow and bubbles), I took the pump out and tried to run it separately. Sometime it would not run; other times it ran very slow with water just trickling out. This happens as I dipped the pump up and down in a bucket half filled with water.

I tried bouncing the pump off the bottom of the bucket to see if it would knock into operation but that failed as well.

Thanks for investigating this with me.

Sounds like the magnet or motor is bad. It will do much better in 8-9" water level but running it in 6.5" won't make the pump go bad. Tough to say what happened. If your pulling less than 115v on your circuit it will not start up or run correctly after time. The new one will fix it all up though. Just keep that old one for parts.

Luke,

Thanks for chiming in.

I was never good at electronic. Good at using my body to close a circuit, but not in figuring out how much load I carried =) So I am not sure what this means or how to determine if I am doing this or not: "If your pulling less than 115v on your circuit it will not start up or run correctly after time."

But thanks again, and I will keep the old one for parts. Glad the replacement did not cost much.
