I have decided to buy an SWC Skimmer. I have found two that are used and in my budget and from all that I have read, they seem to be the best in my budget. I am looking at getting one for a new tank set up:

75g - mixed reef - heavily stocked

Which would be better the SWC 160 or 180?

They are basically the same size. The biggest difference is the 160 has the Atman 2500 pump and the 180 uses the Sicce 2500.

I am also wanting something that is as quiet as possible.

Thanks in Advance.

I'm running the 160 and couldn't be happier. I made my decision based on the Atman. I like this pump better. Never hear it running. Not sure if you've done so yet, but Luke on reef filltration (one of our sponsors here) took good care of me.

I will check Reef Filtration out. Thanks. I just saw a Bubble Magus NC-7 for sale used with the same pump. It is about $50 cheaper and looks like the same skimmer?

Stick with SWC! You just can't beat Reef Filtration's customer service, Luke does a FANTASTIC job. Just an example of his superb customer service...

I recently got several small cuts on my hand from trying to save a wine glass from braking. Later that day, as soon as I placed my hand in the aquarium to do a water change, I got slightly electrocuted! After trial and error, I finally figured out the stray voltage was the result of a faulty SWC 160 pump. I emailed Luck that same night on Thursday around 9:00pm. Not only did Luke respond to my email 10 minutes later, but I also had a replacement pump waiting for me on the front door Monday morning!!!! Oh, and did I mention my warranty was slightly past due!

On top of SWC being a great product in itself, you also have the comfort knowing its backed up by outstanding customer service!

Hope this helps!

Yeah, go with the 160. I have the 180 on my 180 gallon and I think it may be too much on a 75.

I have the SWC 160 cone with modified mesh wheel running on my 76 gallon and it works like a champ! Plenty of skimmer for the tank. Tank is well stocked.
