looks great, you are getting some outstanding growth. that one is pretty slow for me, but i have been having issues off and on, just in the last month or two things have smoothed out and i'm getting some much heathier looking coral.

Is that a splice behind it? I was just thinking after your post earlier i wonder how his rainbow splice is doing? any updates?

Ya, it was a little slow getting going but like several others, it’s really moving right along lately. Glad to hear you’re on a good track too.

It's funny you ask Joe. I had a list of pics I wanted to get yesterday and when I got them all taken I almost had all the equipment put away and then I remembered I wanted to do an update on the splices too. Well, I was too lazy to get everything back out I’ll snap a phone pic tomorrow and post. The Frankenstein splice (#2) is amazing. I’ve actually got 2 completely red branches starting on it. Then the original frag is shooting multi-veined branches….so, it’s going well

I went over to your green Splice thread and checked when I originally Frankenstein the red tip off my mother colony and remounted. This was around 1-23-22 it looks like....

Fast forward a year to today and this is what that little tip has turned into (left colony)....

If you remember, I was quite meticulous about scraping away any encroaching yellow/green to allow the red room to grow out. The yellow/green grows much faster than the red it seems. The original mother is there on the right. Believe it or not, I have now had random spots of the red streaks just pop up on my original mother colony.

Out of further curiosity, I cut some of the branches that had random red pop up and remounted them to grow out like I did the original Frankenstein. They are growing fast so it should be no time to see the red streaking grow with the encrustment and then I will scrape the yellow away like before to allow the red more room to grow. Here are a couple of the frags. There isn’t a whole bunch of red but there should be enough to start a good mama with....

I’ve actually cut about 10-15 frags off the mother colony. I think I’ve finally broken even on what I paid for that original frag, after 2 years

I think I have found the sweet spot for blue corals. I was playing around with my clip on phone camera filters yesterday and I think I found the right combo. Here’s a better pic of the RRC MARDI GRAS that looks so much more accurate than the DSLR pic I posted the other day. Now I just need to figure out how to get a filter like that for the DSLR. Every yellow filter I’ve ever tried literally blankets the whole shot yellow. They aren’t translucent enough

Is it pretty similar to RRC Shazam?

I have the Shazam too but it’s still fairly new. So far I believe they are the same species. The Shazam seems to have darker blue and no white where as my Whitewalker is mostly white with baby blue growth tips.

I checked out the Whitewalker in WWC’s large DT a few weeks ago and I think they have moved it down to a bit lower light since I bought mine there last year. It’s kind of a mono tone sea green color now. IMHO mine looks better lol.

Very cool. I’ve been really into the smoothies lately after noticing that they were under represented in my collection and looking around at what is out there. Picked up several cool ones at the LEAR swap, can’t wait for them to start growing out like that one.

Same here. Not sure what species this is. It’s quite different than all my other corals. Grows tight, tabling like clusters.

I look forward to seeing your new pieces down the road!
