Sweet Tart Madracis Care

I'd like to get some of this coral but cannot find much on info on caring for this coral in my searches online. Would like to know what light level and type is best, water params and if it needs fed.

I'd like to bump this old thread. @Zoanthids , any advice on care for this coral. I just ordered it on your winter after sale with shipping for next week. Is it a NPS coral? What par level if not?

There are a few Indo-Pacific Madracis species. Not sure what species this strain of coral is, or if it even is a Madracis. Judging by its color, this coral is probably not a Caribbean/Atlantic Madracis, as those are usually canary yellow.

Google searching it, it seems like it is a part of the Pocillopora family. This Reddit thread has some info on it. Zoanthids.com has quite a few colorations of it if you search here. I searched Reef2Reef for more information which is why I re-raised this dead thread, but the only results are really sale threads from Zoanthids.com.

I'd love to know more about this species because there is a huge gap between information of it maybe being a NPS low light coral and being more like pocillopora which can receive acro level lighting. I'd hate to fry my new coral I'll be receiving next week.

From what I know, only some species of Madracis are azooxanthellate, and the ones that are usually deepwater/coldwater species, which means they are probably not collected for the aquarium trade. The madracis that you occasionally see in the hobby are most likely not azoox species, or may not even be madracis at all.

So I assume it is one. You have a wealth of knowledge. Is it safe to assume due to there being variants in color that this is a photosynthetic coral and not NPS?

I wouldn't fully trust IDs given by coral vendors or hobbyists, as we are prone to misidentifying the organisms we care for, especially if the organism is uncommon in the hobby.

I would assume that these Madracis in the hobby are photosynthetic, as the azoox Madracis are usually found in deep waters, where stony corals are probably not collected for the aquarium trade. (There are also azoox Madracis in Japan and the Mediterranean, but no stony corals are collected there.)
