SWFL using Natural Ocean Water for Reef Tank

I went out to my buddies condo at Sanibel Island and I had this bright idea of taking a sample home and testing it... testing was perfect!

With that being said, I am new to SWFL from NY and would it be doable to get 50-60 gallons of saltwater in jugs and do weekly 7 gallon water changes?

Its a short drive and i am just thinking with storing and any downside to this.. all i can think about is FREE

There are people on here that do that sort of thing. PaulB is one of them. I think there are some others as well. I live way to far from an ocean for that to even be an option for me.

Hi, I only use NSW for my system, beginning from day one of tank setup, and all the water changes, that follow. I do have a boat and collect it far offshore, along the Southern Florida East Coast, to the middle Florida Keys. If the water test are good, then go for it, and try to collect on the last of the incoming tide, and on rain free and Red Tide free days.

Nice... I got no boat, and I have two wonderful kids. So timing is an issue!! But red tide I never thought off.

Hi, I would use the NSW available to you, just check your local Red Tide reports and water parameters before you collect it. If you want to be extra safe, filter it and run the water thru a UV sterilizer.
