Thank you for all your replies. I have a lux meter so I could use that to get a general idea of spread.

what bulbs do all you use? My wife wants a blueish tank. I was thinking maybe 14k Hamilton might look nice with the xho’s.

Go with the Hamilton 20k. Plenty of blue but not Windex.

The Reef Brite fixtures easily cover 32x24 when 12" from the water surface. I would actually spread them apart a little more than the 6" in the middle. Doing so will eliminate some hot spots in the center of the tank and will give you complete coverage side to side still. Do 8" instead of 6" if that makes sense

Absolutely makes sense.

I'm using Hamilton 14k bulbs and will supplement with xho's. I was going to supplement with my extra Kessil 360x's, but I'll use them on another build. I'm focusing mainly on shallow water acropora and clams, so the 14k will do the trick.

20k should support clams too?

Love that set up. What is the distance from the center to the edge of each fixture? Are you happy with the spread?
am super happy with my light setup i have a kessil in the middle for ramp up and down too . the spread is amazing i just centered the 2 fixures over the tank so there even

Yes, the ballasts will have to be bought here, accordingly to the bulbs you will use.
Hamilton carries both magnetic and electronic ballasts.
Aquacave carries a great diversity of bulbs and e-ballasts, as sales have been higher lately.
Premium Aquatics also have good selection:
Congratulations on your new purchase!

What did they charge for shipping? I really want a 3x400w hood for my new setup.
Send them an email.

I just love those giesemann spectra’s. You must be hitting some very high par numbers with a 400w in a shallow tank. With 250w on m80 ballast I’m seeing 700 par up high with radiums.

Indeed I love it too.I need to measure par, should be in the 700 ish range but the acros love it.Have never seen such polyp extension. Acros are 5 inches under the surface and the fixture is at 12 inches ffom the water. The tank is only a 21 gallon but connected to a 450 gallon tank, otherwise the water would boil :)

Vornado or Honeywell about $5 at the thrift shop. Turn it on when the light comes on.
Its not an issue, the tank is connected to a 450 gallon system. So it runs cool. Iam more concerned about the eurobracing on top of the tank as it heats up quite a bit :D
