Switching Controllers from Apex to GHL

For me the choice is obvious as Apex, while certainly not infallible, is a known an established system

GHL has been around for something like 20 years. They are quite "established". ;)

That is a very sweet design!!! Very compact too and look ma; no orange :)

Does it now offer per port power monitoring and ability to use it in programming?

Monitoring has been done for a while for both the App, cloud service and local web interface.

The next software update is going to include programming. They posted this on Facebook just a few days ago. When they do I will post here the screen shots of the interface examples of how to use it (Maybe even a Video) and update the charts to include the feature. :)

These new features along with new power bar make the GHL a great option. Opens up a whole new can of....possibilities. If they only had the darn Ethernet jack ....

Then again, the Trident is about to show up.

As Promised the updated Powerbar chart now with the 6E-PAB on it :)

This thread is about to cost me a bundle. My wife loves the hobby and the tanks but I may have to sneak this in under the cover of darkness.:)

We know nothing hehe :)

Thanks very much for keeping these updated. Really great resource.

Cheers, Tony

No kidding! Should be a sticky in the aquarium controller forum! This thread has some serious views!

Thanks @Ditto for continually updating it! GHL has been chugging along with updates and new releases regularly over the past year or so! Hopefully when Trident finally comes out Neptune will have some other new goodies coming out!

@Tristren - Thanks glad to do it.

@WWIII - Thank you, and when Neptune System release new things I will update the thread with notes. Even when the Trident comes out I will do a chart with that and the KHD Director :)

Just ordered a 4e starter pack with two additional powerbar 6e and some level switches to go with my doser 2.1.

I was running into some issues with my apex classic (outlet switches sticking on) and reading of more failures re software, so ready to try something new and that matches the rest of the German gear I use.

Hey for the water/mix station in the basement I just picked up a Maxi doser for auto water change, Should I be looking to integrate that or run stand alone, I did get an extra power bar, I cant control salt so I still have mix the SW. just planning, so throw it all out please.

I would integrate all under the profilux. It's nice to have it all under the same roof while using the app, web, gcc. If you need to adjust salinity for some reason then you can just click a button to go to the dosers section and run the out water or in water more to correct salinity based on the probe and/or other testing.

The only good thing about using it stand alone is you can use the temp sensor and level port. I just find it easier to have everything under the profilux as one and if I need another temp sensor then add a card. If I need another level sensor then add a splitter or another card.

I actually have my awc set up with no level sensors. I just program the maxi to take out x amount 150 times a day and then add back x amount 150 times a day. Doing this method you can adjust up or down the rates based on the conductivity probe. I also double check salinity with a refractometer and hanna occasionally to make sure my probe isn't off.

While I'm waiting for my Profilux kit to be delivered, I was wondering if I can use one of the dosers from my 2.1 for auto top off? The system I use, ATI Essentials Pro, only uses two containers so that leaves me with two unused dosing pumps.

Ok, So i would need an expansion box in the basement for temp, salinity or float switches?

I used the old doser to my auto top off without any problem. I think GHL says that around max 15 minutes run and 15 minutes paus is needed for Doser 2.1. If you have two heds free - you can use both for auto top off

Or you install the expansion cards in the P4 and run the cables down stairs.

For me it was easier to have the expansion box only because it allowed me to also install a avast barel tender on the ato station and which required an expansion card. You can also add a leak detector also so just in case something happens your alerted which also plugs into the expansion box directly.

Yes - that¨s a good idea if it is below 100 meters between the Exp box and the computer.

@Lasse is spot on. You can easily use the doser 2.1 and one of the heads as a ATO, very simple to setup and GHL has some good YouTube videos showing the step by step.
