After I finish the packet of LRS reef frenzy I have it's time to make a switch. I'm just not a fan of what I'm using now, that yellow gunk clogs my overflow (modified due to my eel) every few days. Thinking of switching to pe mysis and live black worms, with leftover bits of whatever I feed my eel.

Currently have 4 wrasses and 2 firefish that are my concern about feeding. My eel gets either: octopus, squid, krill, clams, oysters, or shrimp. Trying live emerald crabs here and there as a treat since I can get them small and cheap.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I don't see why it would be problem

Yello gunk? Pe mysis will clog that overflow 40 times faster then lrs lolol i use both

LRS is in greater chunks than PE mysis. I disagree with your statement.

I think the issue at hand is feeding too much giving too little time for fish to eat. I sometimes put my pumps in feed mode when feeding. This allows the majority of the food to be eaten before it can be filtered out. OP, you should try this out a few times if you don't already. If so then make a switch to whatever you deem appropriate. :)

I always turn off my return pump for an hour when feeding. This gives my fish/corals time to eat the food without it going down the overflow and wasting food. I use LRS reef and fish frenzy and absolutely love it.

It is great food. There's no doubt about it.

Sorry i dont mean the size chunk particals i mean the fat and oil grease lmaooo
Ummm, I don't think either foods contain greasy oily fats outside of what is contained within the food content itself.

Lrs blends are the best seafood blends why switch? And what do you have a screen on ur overflow?

Then you never used pe mysis lol

I guess I'm clueless.

I feed the fish mysis, and the corals a mix of the calanus and another food I have.

I have my overflow covered and not as wide open due to having a small eel who has escaped through it before. I think they put to much of that yellow filler in LRS and that's why I'm not a fan of it, that's also the stuff that clogs.

I've done this and still have this issue, my fish go after the chunks and the yellow stuff gets left untouched.

Thanks for the responses ya'll.

Duke, Thanks for using our foods and I appreciate the feedback. Just to avoid confusion I wanted to mention that there are no fillers of any type added to any of our food blends. The yellow tint is caused from the natural beta-carotene food soak we use to enrich the foods to increase pigmentation and other benefits. If you are experiencing any "clumping" of the foods this is likely due to the natural proteins which become "sticky" during the blending process. This allows the foods to stay together for users who like to feed larger pieces to the aquarium, and yet if you scramble the food like an egg in a cup of water it will fall apart. I hope this helps clarify things a little better for you. Also of note is that there is a significant quantity of pre-rinsed PE Mysis® in all our food blends.

Thanks again and if I can ever be of assistance please PM me or send me an email.

Looks like oil after frying something. That's off of mysis?

Regardless what you're feeding it needs to be consumed quick before it goes to the sump or else you need to turn of the return pump to give time for fish to consume the food.
It's fine to switch foods but I'd prefer mixing foods instead. LRS does offer great nutritional value which is not matched by other foods. My fish has colored much more since switching from PE mysis soacked in Zoe and Zoecon.

That comes from a half of piece of mysis rinsed you get the same thing from lrs wether your fish eat every last bit or not, its like grease, if i were u i would deff not switch from lrs maybe try a different blend

4 wrasses and feeding about 1 1/2 cubes doesn't last long. They are some eating machines, the 2 firefish dart in and out.

Started this thread to see if anyone else feeds anything different and if so why. Going from big predators before to smaller fish has been a bit of a change.
