I’m changing up my dosing to going full Red Sea lineup. Still going to use the BRS Mag mix until it’s used up since I rarely have to dose it. Currently I’m using BRS 2 part. I’m not sure how much Red Sea compared to the BRS I’m supposed to use. My daily dosing of Alk is 8ml and Ca is 10ml of the BRS mixed/measured exactly for a stock solution to auto dose.

The only thing I’ve found on the Red Sea site is

Concentration:
Liquid supplement: 1ml will raise the Alk level of 100 liters (25 gal) by 0.036 meq/l (0.1dKH)

Liquid supplement: 1ml will raise the Ca level of 100 liters (25 gal) by 2ppm.

Tank is a 40br with an 8 gallon sump. Since a 40br is actually closer to 44 gallons plus about 5-6 gallons in the sump equaling close to 50 gallons total volume.

What is Your Daily Ca and Alk consumption ?
For example if the tank is consuming 1dKH, you will need 20 ml
alk daily dose = (daily dkh/0.1dkh) * (tank size /25 gal)

If the tank use for example 10 ppm of Calcium , you will need 10 ml
Ca daily dose = (daily calcium/2ppm) * (tank size /25 gal)

Well that’s what I’ve been trying to avoid is depleting my Alk and Ca just to find out what it is. I already run on the low side of Alk at 7.8-8.1 dkh and Ca at 430 ppm.

Red Sea recommends to do a 4 day usage test but I find that a bit too long without dosing Alk. What I’m not finding is how much stronger Red Sea is compared to BRS. I’m still using the old Soda Ash and since it’s discontinued there’s no more info on it on the web site.

Are you dosing BRS's sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate? If you're dosing sodium carbonate, 8 mL/day increases your alkalinity by about 0.23 dKh. In that case, you'd need about 4.5 mL/day of the Red Sea alkalinity supplement. If you're doing sodium bicarbonate, 8 mL/day increases your alkalinity by about 0.11 dKh. So you'd need about 2.5 mL/day of the Red Sea alkalinity supplement in that case.

For calcium, 10 mL/day of the BRS stuff increases your Ca by 2 ppm. So you'd need about 2 ml of the Red Sea stuff per day.

Also, if you'd like a strength comparison, this is roughly correct:

Red Sea Alkalinity: 1 mL in 25 gallons increases dKh by 0.1
BRS (carbonate): 1 mL in 25 gallons increases dKh by 0.06
BRS (bicarb): 1 mL in 25 gallons increases dKh by 0.03

Red Sea Ca: 1 ml in 25 gallons increases ppm by 2
BRS Ca: 1 ml in 25 gallons increases ppm by 0.4

Thank you for this. I’m using the Ash which is the sodium carbonate.
