Switching from red sea to salifert alkalinity test.

I am need of a refill on my red sea alkalinity test kit. While looking for a refill I ran across a deal on amazon for a 100-200 test salifert kit that came to $8 with subsequent refills costing $12 every 6 months. This is a bit cheaper than the 75 test red sea kit thats usually around $20. Anyone have any issues with salifert?

So is the Red Sea. This is why I went with Hanna and I will have a definite number every time.

Is it similar to the red sea? I drip till it starts turning green, do one more drip, look at my reading, one more drip and it usually turns yellow meaning over dose.

I did a small test recently between Red Sea, Salifert and an ICP test. I conducted the home tests side-by-side and at the same time took the water sample to send for the ICP. When the ICP results came back I found that they matched the Salifert tests in Calc & Mag. Red Sea tests were measuring way to high. I figured that if the Red Sea tests for Calc and Mag were way out, then it stands to reason that their Alk test would also be out (ICP don't test for Alk). I have since switched everything over to Salifert, except for the Red Sea Phos test, which was accurate (as was the Salifert Phos test) but the Red Sea test is easier to read.

I have probably one test left on my red sea kit. I am going to do a side by side test with the last one so I have a baseline.

The red sea alk pro was far better then I imagined!
I Just got the Hanna checker for alk, ordered refill for my half full red sea alk pro kit that expired in 2015 while I was at it. The red sea alk test that is in my expired marine care test kit (2016) is off by miles (ranging from 10-12dkh from same sampled water), but both the expired alk pro (8,5dkh) and the new refill (8,5dkh) gives me about same results as the Hanna checker (153 ppm/ 8,568dkh). Cool thing about the checker is that it gives me readings in ppm, and the guess work about when the color changes is eliminated. About 12 USD more for the checker then the alk pro, and refills are about 33% more expensive for the checker then the alk pro per test (I never squirt back into the bottle). The expired magnesium pro and calcium (2015) from red sea gives me also the same results as the new refills (2021).

My salifert test kit came in today. I used my last red sea test and read 7.9 dkh. Did the salifert test and read 8.5 dkh. I will probably do a couple more salifert tests to make sure they are consistent.

My salifert test kit came in today. I used my last red sea test and read 7.9 dkh. Did the salifert test and read 8.5 dkh. I will probably do a couple more salifert tests to make sure they are consistent.

I've been using Salifert for over 12 years without issue. Consistent batch to batch.

Salifert gives me the same results as Red Sea Pro when I compared 2 new kits against eachother. This goes for alk and calcium.

I did a couple more tests with the salifert and got a consistent 8.3. I squeezed one more test from the Red Sea and also got right around 8.3. I like both tests but if salifert is cheaper I will probably stick with it.
