Background:
I recently downsized tanks to a 20g, and my coral's daily Ca/alk intake surpassed the amount that saturated kalkwasser in my ATO was providing. To make up for this, I added a GHL dosing pump and started dosing 2-part to make up the difference. Recently my 2-part demand has been all over the place which I think is from the changing of seasons and constant thermostat adjustments from the roommates which vary my evaporation rate and the amount of kalkwasser dosed into the tank. I've also had issues with the ATO tubing clogging, and I'm worried about my ATO pump or reservoir splitting open and breaking when I'm not at home. Because of all this I've decided that running 2-part and kalkwasser together is slightly more complex than I want my system to be and decided to switch completely over to 2-part.
Here are my current dosing details:
system volume: ~17 gallons
kalkwasser dosing: saturated (2 tsps / gal) replacing approximately 0.5 gallons / day
2-part dosing: 2ml BRS 2-part daily (equal dosing for Ca/alk)
Just based off online calculators, my 2-part demand should be 3.5 dkh / day which sounds high. It's a mixed reef with several small acro colonies, a large montipora colony (for my tank size) and various LPS.
All that said, what's the best way to transition to only 2-part? Are there any unforeseen effects of making this switch that I should be aware of? If anyone has experience doing this, please share your opinion!
