@Lou Ekus thank you for the info on the line of TM salt mixes and guidance on the problems I was encountering. I've decided to go with the Bio-Actif Sea salt and was super impressed on how fast it mixed for me. Normally I'm a slow pourer of salt but today I wanted to actually see if that claim stood true to how fast TM salt mixes up and yup, mixed extremely well.
To others I had no issues using the Hanna conductivity salinity tester. Verified against the TM hydrometer to be spot on. I've read others saying this salt leaves an oily film on the surface and IME mixing up this batch I had nothing on the surface, nor on the bottom of my 121 liter mixing bucket after pumping it into the tank.
Water is a bit cloudy but it's actually clearing up as I type this post. Over all I've had the best experience with this salt over 4 other brands. Fish are happy, corals happy, even after doing over an 80% water swap. Yeah I'm a trailblazer lol but indeed, I'm really happy with everything today and how well everything went. The fish didn't jump out of the tank and the pH has been the best I've seen after any other mixing with other salts.
Thanks also to
@Randy Holmes-Farley for enlightening me about using the conductivity meter and also a thanks to
@Hans-Werner for chiming in about a possibility but not a certainty when using a conductivity meter for checking salinity.
And the rest, my hat goes off to you all!
Thanks for your comments, and hopefully this thread helps others with some questions they may have that may be hard to find online
I'll post as days progress on how the system adjusted to the big water and salt swap.
Cheers everyone!
