Switching saltwater

Hello everyone,

So I am wanting to get an RO/DI water maker so I can make my own fresh and saltwater rather than having to go to the fish store and having to bring it all back. So my question is how should I make the change. I know it should be slow but how slow? And any suggestions? What do you use and why? I’m thinking about switching to the RedSea Coral Pro or HW Reefer.

Right now I just have LPS leather and softie but am waiting to expand. Also keeping fish.

I wouldn't be concerned with how quickly you make the change. I've switched salt mixes a few times in the past few years and just went about my business as usual. As long as you're doing typical water change volumes (25% or so), the chemistry of the water is not going to change that much.

If your tank is packed to the brim with expensive and sensitive SPS frags, then obviously you may want to take it a bit more slowly. However, this is not typically the case with reefers who use saltwater from their LFS.

Personally I use coral pro and am 100% happy with it. I wouldn't be concerned about switching with LPS and soft corals, normal water change will be a fine transition to your new salt.

I use reef crystals and am pretty happy with it and my corals seem do do very well. A lot of my friends and people I talk to either use reef crystals or redsea coral pro.
