Switching to a new filter will it affect biological colony?

I’m currently using a magnum polisher internal canister filter but I want to upgrade to the pen plax cascade 700 because it’s half off but my problem is how new this tank is. 2 months old roughly with not too much live rock. Should there be any problems with just taking out the established filter and new cascade?

Canister filters don't seem to have the biologic filtration of other methods. If you make the 'upgrade' then you should not make any other changes/additions for 1-2 months. If you have space for a sump with refugium growing macroalgae, that is an upgrade for long term success, if you have space.

You don't say what you have in your tank or even size of tank (guessing 30-60g based on filters listed); picture or list would be helpful

I would just put some of the filter material from the old canister into the new one and not give it a second thought
