I currently have appx 2 quarts of 1.5" Marinepure media spheres in my SR60 AIO mixed reef and would like to completely remove that and replace with Seachem Matrix.
2 reasons, 1, is the Aluminum that is leached out into aquariums and 2, this media has been in the tank for about 4 years.
I plan on just adding recommended amount of 300ml to the system in mesh bags then removing just a couple of the spheres weekly until they are all gone.
It is a 60 gallon tank and I do have about 25 lbs of live rock in there as well.
The question is how long should I wait after ading the Matrix to start removing the Marinepure?
Thanks,
Don

Have you done any testing before or after to confirm the aluminum? Have you tested the salt mix too? Many of the associations people find with aluminum and marine pure can be seen as correlation but little evidence of causation.

Anyway, I would add the matrix now and wait a while. When you remove the marine pure, but it a lot of bacterial blends (ex microbacter XLM and maybe eco balance or something). I would very much reccommend the microbacter xlm if you are disturbing the bio filter to that extent. I took out a plate from bright well and iI am quite sure it caused me a dino problem.
