So I wanted to switch from red sea coral pro salt to tropic marin bio actif salt I feel like red seas coral pro varies in results to much and is affecting my coral my tank is kind of newer as well which could also be causing an issue about 6 months I also do not have a skimmer and also this salt had carbon in it to suffice for carbon dosing will this be an issue for my tank I just received the bucket from ups today will this do more harm than good anyone have any experience with it would help thank you

While I haven't personally used Bio Actif, I have used Pro Reef for many years with great success. Tropic Marin salts are much closer to NSW levels, so I wouldnt do any massive water changes for a while, since coral pro has such elevated levels. I feel if you stick with 10-15% changes weekly with the tropic marin salts for a while until your levels come down and stabilize with the new salts parameters, you should be fine. What kind of inhabitants and corals are in your tank.

Thank you I will go slow as of right now just snails red and blue foot hermits a watchman goby frogspawn torch and zoa frag I also have two clowns in qt they still have 20 some days to go yet before adding to dt

I have used Bio Actif and you are supposed to have a skimmer. Personally, after 6 months of use, I didn't see it worth paying almost $100 per bucket for the same results as cheaper salt (also tried Aqua Forest Probiotic salt). If you don't have a skimmer I would go with the Tropic Marin Pro salt. Just my 2 cents. These bacteria salts don't seem to work well for their intended purpose, but you need a skimmer for them.

I switched to this salt from Red Sea pro primarily due to the parameters it offered when mixed. I have not had any issues with it and in my opinion it is a good salt to mix with. Tank parameters are stable with this salt.

Do you use a skimmer with it or have heard of anyone using it without a skimmer with success

I just ordered a reef octopus ns80 nothing crazy but we shall see how it goes

How big is your tank? What do you do for filtration? I definitely have a skimmer. It is a necessity for me. Some people do not use a skimmer but it depends on your bio load and the nutrient level your are trying to achieve. Bio actif provides a biological buffer for your tank, which is what I like about it and at 35ppt, it is close to my tank parameters. Measuring your parameters will tell you if you need a skimmer or if you can get away with regular water changes, which will help replace trace elements taken up by your tank.

My tank is a 25 lagoon I use caddys on both sides just with filter floss and a sponge I had dry rock which is now live I only have snails hermits and a watchman goby in the tank as of right now and a frogspawn torch and zoa frag
