I have a 16" Synergy Overflow, and am getting ready to do the plumbing for the external box. I have two questions about it. The directions indicate for the full and partial siphons you use a 90 elbow and a street elbow. Is that completely necessary? Can I just use 2 90s? The directions also say to drill a hole in both lines. I have not seen anybody here drill both that I can remember. Also what I've read about bean animal plumbing you only drill the partial siphon line. Can any one clear this up for me? Thanks for the input.

I have the 16" Synergy Overflow and used regular 90's. I only drilled a hole in the partial siphon 90. It works great.

The street elbows are used because the take up less room than 2 90s. The above poster said he used two 90s and it fit fine, so either should do. The reason some people drill a hole in the full siphon line is so that any air in the top of the bend can escape. It is usually only a problem in lower flow systems. If you have enough flow, it should push all the air out. I don't have one drilled in mine on my little 40B and it purges pretty quick, but I have a calculated flow of 800 GPH. You just have to make sure that at the waters normal running height, that the hole is submerged. If it isn't, air can get in and break the siphon. Maybe put it all together and start it up, dial it all in, then shut the pump off and on a few times. If it starts up quickly and easily every time, then the hole isn't needed. If it doesn't, try drilling a hole. Good news is, the fittings are less than $1.50 if you screw one up! LOL

Sweet, you'll like it. I can stir the tank up so that you can't even see the back, and with two filter socks, it's nice and clean in less than 10 minutes. I really like faster sump turnovers as long as they are designed well and are quiet.
