Synergy Reef 16” Ghost Over flow?

Hello I’m building a 57g Cube (24”x24”x24”)reef tank. This is my second tank but is my first time setting up a sump (trigger system 20C sapphire). I’m planning on the Synergy Reef 16” Ghost overflow but not sure if it’s appropriate for this set up. Is there anything else I need to buy?

Should fit the tank nicely, yeah - it'll work.

You will need a drill bit. The 65mm that BRS sells is an example of what you need, though the "ideal" hole size from the manufacturer is 63mm, I think.

Beyond that; the plumbing to hook the overflow into the sump. Every setup is different, so hard to sat exactly what that will look like, but generally: three lengths of 1.5" pipe that can reach from your tank to the sump, and a check valve of some type (ball or gate - with gate generally being easier to use in this case, but also more expensive).

Thank you! I’ll go order one of these sweet looking overflow sometime today along with a gate valve, drill bit, unions, and pipes from BRS some time today.

Ill think about these overflows from Module Marine but what are the reasons you prefer this design over synergy reef’s?

Messed up the link apparently (fixed now); cost is a big factor, you get a lot more bang for the buck with the MM overflow. It comes with a nice rigid template for drilling and polycarbonate lids (wont warp like acrylic lids). The internal and external boxes mount at the same height; I consider this more a plus in regard to aesthetics vs functionality. Something else this allows is the removal of the internal box for cleaning.

I’m moving closer to the MM overflows rn. They both seem like they cost about the same price because SynergyReef 16” is on sale atm. I like the look of the MM overflow and the quality of it. Only problem i saw people have is that this overflow doesn’t have enough room for a bean animal styled overflow.

They will make it to any dimensions you want but this is my 1200gph unit (4" wide external box using 3/4" drains/bulkheads). I bet the 3" box could work as well.

If Im not mistaken that’s a bean animal styled? (Sorry I’m a total noob when it comes to sumps and overflows lol)
I’m pretty much set on MM overflows rn but may I ask what is that blue tube and the white pipes?

Yes, this is a beananimal setup. Left to right, the tubes are: emergency, primary, and secondary. The blue air line prevents the secondary tube from going full siphon until the water level rises above the end of the vent line (upper right corner); once the water level hits that point, air is prevented from entering the tube, it goes full siphon, and the secondary flushes water from the external box. The primary line is always under full siphon (no vent line needed). The white fittings are just 3/4" 90° elbows; there is no requirement to use one on the primary drain if the water level in the external box is high enough to prevent it from drawing in air. The secondary elbows simply set the water height within the external box.

I’m leaning towards either the 1,200gph or 1,600gph overflow from them. I’ll make some measurements and order one when I get home today. Thank you for informing me about overflows!

synergy is 1.5", MM tend to be 1".Even less in the smaller MM. 1" is enough for most though. 1.5 tends to have more flexibility.

Yea I agree the Synergy Reef Overflows is definitely easier to work with but I believe the quality and just pure asthetic look of the MM overflow draws my attention towards it. Even though I’m using the MM overflow for this tank build I might try out the synergy reef overflow in a future nano tank.
