Hey guys!!!!!!!!! Success!!! I drilled my tank and got my outter box w/ the lid on it fitting snug up against the back trim! Drilling the holes was WAY easier than I thought. I used the drill guide and taped the inside glass before drilling. Had my fiance pour some water from a cup on the bit every 10 seconds. I drilled the return line today as well, and the last hole only took about 2 minutes (faster as I went).

I used a different method for lining this sucka up just right. I took the drill template and taped it to the outside box w/ 2 small pieces of masking tape making sure that the top border of the template lined up with the top border of the holes on the box. Before that I put tape all around the template (the border) with half the tape on the template and half pointing to the outside of the back glass panel.. Follow me? I put the lid on the box and centered it on the back side of the tank while butting the lid up to the bottom of the outside trim. Then, I removed the 2 small pieces of tape and secured the perimeter of the template to the back glass panel. Voila! If anyone needs pics, I can re-do the process and post up some pics.

I finally did a water test today. The water line is just barely high enough! <whew> It was tricky getting everything flowing right.

Tricky how¿ cutting the pipes inside the box? What heights did you run your s?

Matching flow rate (pump speed) and the full siphon valve so that the water level in the overflow box is just right. Too high and the OC pulls too much water and air - loud and bubbly in the sump. I'm not sure I'm done fiddling with the heights, but the full siphon needs to be as low as you can make it. I'll play more tomorrow and take some measurements. I just hope my one small leak is fixed when I test tomorrow!

Yeah and of course it's always that one joint where you didn't quite like how it went together when you did it, but were just hoping it'd be OK. Worst part is it involves a Sch 80 sweep 90 elbow that I can't get just running down to the store locally. I ordered some extras last Monday and they're arriving tomorrow.

Never heard of a sweep 90 fitting. Is that fitting made to reduce friction?

Yes, basically it's a more gradual turn, but also has more reach than a regular 90.

How did y'all drill I just bought a ten gallon tried about 10 times on the tank and cracked everytime I'm scared to do it on my real one any tips thanks I watched brs how they did
Brs diamond blade
Drill guide
Regular drill is what I used while hosing the tank with a hose

I'm willing to bet your 10 gal is tempered. I did it just like brs fid. Drill guide and all

From what I understand, the thin glass of a small tank is much more easy to crack. The 3/8" thick glass of my 120g was easy.
But you might want to clamp a support board behind the glass - basically sandwich the glass between a drill guide on top and a solid board or plywood scrap on the bottom - it helps a little with chip out too.

Hmm so the smaller tanks are harder interesting what kind of speed did u use about half trigger

And how was y'all pressure I took the springs of my drill guide and just let the pressure of the drill do the work

I went at pretty low speed, very little pressure. I didn't use a drill guide attachment - just freehand with a template. I really think for the thin glass you need to sandwich it for the support underneath.

Ok Gents how are You coming with the bottom end (into the sump) ?

Pipes cut to go no more than an inch below the surface. I even took a tip from SynergyReef's own build thread and cut the end at a 45. Dunno if it helps any but what the heck.
