So after a THOROUGH discussion with many forums members, I have changed my mind, originally I wanted to do a DIY overflow, but I realized it isnt worth the hassle.

That's the overflow.
The flow rate is up to 2500 gph which is more than enough for 10x turnover in my 220. My return pump is 3645 gph though, will that cause any problems? Also this will be setup with bean animal's plumbing method. Anyone have currently or had this overflow, if so thoughts on it? It seems to be a very popular overflow. Thank you for reading.

There is no way I would recommend my overflow for your planned tank size size and flow rate. I have the 16” shadow on a 75 gallon with a VarioS-8 pump running at 60% going through a 3/4” bulkhead. My guess is 600-800 gph flow. It’s noisy, it has salt creep like crazy, and yes this is after increasing the water level in the external box, decreasing surface agitation in the display.

To be fair I loved this over flow the first year I had it when I used the Varios-2 at 100%. At 300-400gpm it was silent and limited salt creep.

So my experience is, I could never get it anywhere close to the advertised flow rates without significant salt creep and noise issue.

Here’s a pic and video of my system taken December 19th. I completely cleaned all the salt creep over Thanksgiving break. So about 6 weeks buildup.

Lot's of not so good reviews on that overflow. Look at Module Marine or something similar instead.

Be aware all overflow ratings are exaggerated, and based on very maximum amount of flow.
To ensure quiet operation, step up the length of the overflow or internal box. Longer internal box helps reduce noise, and has better surface skimming. If I was doing a tank that size, I would get the 3600 model modular marine. MM has been at this for along time, handcrafted quality, several years of design refinement.

Here's my example. I use the internal low profile Modular Marine box, rated for 1500 GPH. It's only 11" long, on a 24" long tank. I'm probably only running 275-375 GPH. It is dead silent, and I can crank up the flow if I wanted to.
