That's fine we all have difference experiences but many people have had the same washing out issues. Notice how practically everyone doesn't recommend using that bulb? It's for a reason.

It's less recommended due to those liking a more BLUE look to their tanks, and the special gives a more white look. But the lamp itself does not wash color out of the corals. Tis all in the eye of the beholder![]()
I have the same tank with the same problem...the T5's are 3" from the water surface so the whole tank gets blasted with light. I initially wanted alot of light for SPS but then got the chalice bug so its hard to find low light areas. I bet all your acans and most of your chalices are low and to the sides of the tank!
I did some experimenting with bulbs. What I found was I didn't like the colors in the tank without a purple+ and coral+, so that leaves me 4 open slots. I tried 2 blue+ and 2 actinic but there wasn't enough blue. I was happiest with 3 blue+, 1 purple+, 1 actinic and 1 Coral+. I also lowered my lighting period from 10 hours to 8 hours. Adding the 1 actinic and lowering the lighting period did help a little...found 2 or 3 chalices that had to come out from the sides into the front of the tank. I should also mention I installed 2 24" TrueLumen Blue strips which is like adding 2 more Blue+ bulbs and those are being run 12 hours a day. The strips do add some blue to the tank so keep that in mind if you run the same T5 combo as me and don't find its blue enough. My order front to back is Blue, Blue, Purple, Actinic, Blue, Coral.
