If I had an 8 bulb unit I would run 3c+ 3b+ for full spectrum effect and 2 actinic on the 2 channel.
Actinics on 1 hour before the 6 the 1 hour after the 6 go off. Actinic 11 hours total.
Been looking for a used 8 bulb used unit actually.

That sounds great, but the 8 bulb really adds some serious par. I was running something similar to that and things started getting bleached out, so i had to cut it way back. I ended up running 2 coral and 4 blue plus for 4 hours a day, which the corals seemed to like a lot better. Two actinic looked great but i thought it was a little too dark

Never had an issue but never checked par. Fixture is only 4" off the water too.
As long as corals are acclimated properly I dont see light, 8 bulb unit, as an issue.
However all my corals are placed from the bottom up to 10" off the bottom. All are growing towards the light with very good growth.

This is my palmers blue milli. All new growth is within the last five weeks. I went all blue + because I had a GHA issue. It was part of my attack plan. I’ve got some good growth on some things and not so hot on others. However this tank is just healing from some issues in the water. I also may have black bugs and am borrowing a really good camera to figure it out. I used to run 4 blue + , coral plus and a purple plus. I liked the color of the tank with this combo also. I may try one coral plus and five blue plus in the future. I do like all blue plus. Sorry about the crappy Ipad pics.

is anything really ‘bad’ happening with the blue plus, or is just the growth of some corals not as good

Nothing bad. Actually all good. I had a bad ro unit and ati testing found copper and aluminum in my water. The tank is still recovering. This stuff just takes a while. I’m starting month three of the recovery phase. The tank is just starting to take off again.

Good to hear and thanks for sharing

I keep my light 12” off the water. maybe too high?

It does look like you have a lot of spill over so you could probably lower them a few inches. If you do, you may have to reduce the amount full power light time so your coals don’t fry, at least until they can acclimate

My T5 aquatic life fixtures aren’t dimmable though...... I may slowly lower... also my tank is only 18” tall!
