T5 fixture? Which one to get?

Would i need any supplemental led's?

Marineland blue led accents are cheap and look great with t5. They look great as night lights as well. I've got 3 on a 6ft tank and love them. $35 each.

The inexpensive grow lights like Hydrofarm are only available up to 48". If you want a 60" fixture, you be spending about $700 for an ATI or other aquarium fixture.

Just buy a 2ft and 4ft. Seems to work.

Good idea :) but mounting is gonna be an issue for me :/

I run a used 6 bulb ati with a 2 bulb aquatic life.
4b+ 4c+ 4" off the surface.
I would get a 6 bulb 60".
Here is my tank 1 year old.
Nice color and full spectrum.

I have an ATI 48” 6 bulb over my 525xl. I have never checked the par numbers, but my corals seem to be responding well to the fixture. I have been thinking about changing to LEDs, but the only reason for that is due to the tank being on the second floor of the house, and the light warms up the room quite a bit.

Y switch? Run a hybrid!!

Ive seen alot of success with it and the ease of use is another factor in this decision :) plus i just looked at my local listings and found the exact fixture im after for 200 bucks

If you have any time please let me know the par values :) also how high above the tank is the fixture?

Right now I’m about 6-7 inches above the water.

I don’t have a PAR meter, but when I was looking at getting this fixture I scoured the Internet for par readings. If you google “ati 6 bulb par readings” you should be able to find some good information.

Never considered the aquatic life hybrid fixture? I hear it’s the best of both worlds. I’m considering that route. New fixtures for 36” are just $100 more lol I’m acting like I work for them.

im getting 36 inch for my cube i like the shimmer l f you dont you can get a light defuser its a cheap setup however they run hot and bulbs need replaced every 6 months or so

they loan par meters at marine depot if you have you get cash back when you turn it back in or watch you tube best for a t5 36 inch is 7 inches off the water for best spread and losein only 15 percent out of tank

One thing to consider when purchasing a 4 foot AND a 2 foot fixture, is you now have to buy double the number of bulbs. An 24” bulbs arent half the price of 48” bulbs. Cost difference between a 24” and a 60” ati blue+ is $5. I’d personally get a 60” 6 bulb ati sunpower in your case, and just mount in closer to the water to reduce light spill. Litetally any combination of ati blue+ and ati coral+ Will work.
