So I've decided to take the plunge from having just a display to adding a 60 gallon rimless for my spa addiction. dimensions are 48x24x12. Its going to be strictly for growing frags and colonies and helping color up some of the corals to be transitioned to my display. I currently have a 150 gallon with 4 Radion Gen 3 Pros as my light source. Most of my spa are high light (500-600), rest are 350-450 with the exception of my montis which vary but most prefer 200ish par.

I plan on the T5s being the primary lighting source with the LEDs just in blue as a supplement. I'm leaning toward an 8 Bulb ATI with one SB blue strip on the front and back. My mindset is if I have 8 and need to scale down i can remove bulbs, however if 6 isn't getting the job done ill need a new fixture. Also, i know the majority seem to run Reefbrite LEDS but I have been reading great reviews on SBs and was going to give them a try, especially since they use primarily Cree bulbs.

Anyone use this combo and is happy with the results? Is this too much juice for a 12" deep tanK? Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!

Somehow i just don't think 60 gallons is big enough for a spa, but you let me know how it goes ;)

You know my opinion. I think you'll get enough light from a 6 bulb and the LED supplement, but i'll tag along to see what others say.

I'm no SPS expert, but I'd bet with a 12" deep tank, you could grow the heck out of SPS with T5s alone, not to mention LED supplements.

@Humblefish told me that my fellow H-town bro @Diesel can grow some mean SPS. Maybe he could weigh in on your proposed setup for SPS success :)
