T5 HO Grow Light - 4 FT 8 Lamps - DL8048 Fluorescent Hydroponic Indoor Fixture Bloom Veg Daisy Chain with Bulbs
Is this light okay?? Will it work??

I use T5 lights over my 40 gallon mixed reef tank. I don't grow acros. I have montiporas, euphylias, Duncans, gonipora, a candy cane and softies. I love my T5 as they bath the tank without shadows.
My thoughts:
8 bulbs is a lot of light. I have a 4 bulb fixture which is plenty. (However, I am not growing light demanding acros)
The spectrum of the bulbs is very important. Bulbs for hydroponic gardening are not what you need for a reef tank.
Factor into your cost buying 8 bulbs appropriate for a reef tank.

I agree with Daddy-o regarding being careful with salt spray. I have a hood designed to go over an aquarium.
The fixture is sealed up quite nicely.

I tried to run one like that but kept having issues with salt water getting in and shorting the ballast.
what would you recommend ?

I don't think my fixture is made any more.
I have two AquaticLife, 2-bulb hoods, attached to each other forming one unit.
I use four ATI bulbs: 1 coral plus, 1 purple plus, and 2 blue plus bulbs.
This combination works well for me.

I will include a URL to a similar looking hood showing how they can be enclosed.
This particular hood has four bulbs. (I am not endorsing this hood, just using it as a visual example)
