Hi ,I have red sea max 130d with compact t5s, which are boring, no pop of corals etc , so question 1 has anyone come across an led that fits into existing sockets or question 2 has anyone tried a coloured gel to the cover ,but would this reduce par and spectrum ?..ps I don't want to lose the lid ,cheers

You could try a different colour bulb combo ?

Can you add pictures ?
I think of t5’s as multiple bulbs which can be interchanged with different colours

as mine … I have 8 bulbs which consist of
2 blue plus
4 coral plus
2 purple plus ati bulbs

I think this comes with power compact fluorescent bulbs. Much weaker than T5 with few bulb choices.

The op described them as compact t5’s

but if these are pc bulbs there are no others .
i actually remember reading the cons of these bulbs .
replacement is insanely priced . And not suitable for corals .

power compacts actually work just fine, they do not look as good as t5s and finding replacement bulbs is going to get harder and more expensive as time foes on, prob time for a replacement fixture

You can get leds that go into t5 fittings, but if they are good enough for corals,or have colour you wanting or are any good, idk sorry as never used them.

I've got similar problem on my tank,I want to get leds but mrs says wants lights coveted so no lights hanging over tank,no lights clamped to back of tank,so maybe I can get some led strips is all as some room at front and back, tank braced and got glass sliding cover so led strips not directly under t5s which guessing won't be good lol

Good luck

Edit: just read compact t5's so doubt be any good but again idk lol

I have read a couple posts of people removing the guts and putting in an off the shelf light. I totally removed the lid and cut off the top trim, then polished the glass where the trim was. I will have to look to see if I still have pictures of it.

In case it helps ,I got this in a deal it fits absolutely perfectly on the rim where the first access lid is ,I'm going to use a dremmel and cut the insides out of this bit and hopefully the lid will close as it looks like it will , this is the 12w 2ft aquasky , eventually I will look for marine version, but means I have retained t5 compacts ,so together not too bad a light front and back ..ps I am skint so I have had to be frugle ha ,
