in the process of trying to find the right bulb combo for my set up... currently, here's my bulb combo... I like it but I think it can improve... every time I take pics, it's always way bluer than what it normally looks in person... I cannot get the camera to get the correct white balance... I know that I have 4 blues and only 2 whites... LoLz...

T-5 bulbs (54w) from back to front
- ATI Blue + (normal)
- ATI Blue Special (overdriven)
- 22k AquaScience (overdriven)
- ATI Blue Special (overdriven)
- ATI Blue + (overdriven)
- 22k AquaScience (normal)

what I plan on doing is this:

T-5 bulbs (54w) from back to front
- 22k AquaScience (normal)
- ATI Blue Special (overdriven)
- KZ Fiji Purple (overdriven)
- ATI Blue + (overdriven)
- ATI Blue Special (overdriven)
- 22k AquaScience (normal)

watcha think?

bump a special for the fiji not the blue +, it wont help your white balance but is such a better bulb than the special it will POP the heck out of your wrasses.
sounds about right?!?

22k
B+
fiji
B+ (or spec)
fiji
22k

i would run 4 22k/B+ and 2 FP's

luckly my gf has a sweet camera and knows how to do white balance and takes all my pics for me :)

EDIT: I run 5 BP and the Fiji so if you want more white get it with the fiji not the special

my pics with my point and shoot were blue and terrible as you saw!

I'll be ordering some Fiji Purples this week and mess with the lighting... my blue zoas haven't been so colorful since my bulb combo has been blue... LoLz... I remember on my 24" fixture with 3 blues and 1 Fiji Purple, they were blue as heck!!!

Your combo sounds good 2 fiji purple is to much

Marvin I found that to properly adjust white balance you need to have the white (sand) or better a grey plastic card for photo balance, fill the entire viewing area or lens. Anything else in the picture with throw of the balance.

Where do you find the Fiji Purples, I've looked around, but can't seem to find them?

PA has them . They are KZ bulbs .

since I already have these bulbs, I'll just have to pick up 2 Fiji Purple and play around from there...

I'll run different combo for a week or two and take FTS and compare them... man, it'll be a long project but I think it'll be worth it... since I can't purchase corals too much this winter, this project should keep me out of trouble... LoLz...

I think you need to take the pics in RAW mode and edit the white balance in post processing. None of our cameras can cope with 20K lighting in a reef tank.

i'm not sure this will help because it seems like your set on a fiji, but i was new to T5's 10 months ago and started out with the various recomended combinations but was never happy and have slowly changed one bulb at a time basically to this combo
i run 8 bulbs all overdriven 4 are blues 2 are actinic and 1 actinic white and 1 aquasun

this is a combination i doubt you'll find anyone else promoting but i really like it.
the high cri index of the aquasun brings out the rainbow of colors ie pink is pink and red is red not a purple hue to everthing
the actinic white and 2 pure actinics make greens glow
and the blues - well nothing beats a good blue bulb

i think i finally got that 10k halide with actinic sup look i've always liked when i ran halides in a T5 combo

When i first set up my T5 lighting, i used a combo of the fiji purple and geisemann actinic bulbs and one KZ coral light. As time passed i eventually swapped out the fiji bulbs. I honestly feel the colors in my tank were much better when i was running the fiji's so i plan to order some up again.

I really appreciate all the comments... keep them coming... I'm not set on anything but I do wanna try a Fiji in there for sure since I've had previous experience with the bulb... it'll be fun experimenting this winter... :)

alright... I received my Fiji Purples a few days ago and finally installed one in the tank... it seems to have helped showing off the pinks/reds... my fishes seemed to like it too... there's a little more pop to them as most of my fishes are on the red/pink spectrum...

so far my bulb combo is this:

T-5 bulbs (54w) from back to front
- ATI Blue + (normal)
- ATI Blue Special (overdriven)
- 22k AquaScience (overdriven)
- KZ Fiji Purple (overdriven)
- ATI Blue + (overdriven)
- 22k AquaScience (normal)

so far, so good... :) :) :)
