I run an 8 bulb tek Light. I have a sucessful SPS dominated tank. I have been playing the spectrum game for 2+ years. I have had great growth with some configs and mostly great color. Still trying to figure out the sweet combo. Right now I am running the following: 5 ATI Blue+, 1 ATI Purple +, 1 Giesemann Act and 1 ATI Coral +. I did have 6 ATI Blue + but some of my greens were turning blue so I put the Coral + back in. There were no white bulbs at that time.
1) Could this be why everything was turning blue?
2) Why are my greens more neno then deep or dark green?
3) All LPS including chalices and zoo's have to be completely shaded in order to open. Even slowly placing them in the light on the sand beds makes them close. The shaded spots are fully open.
4) The fixture is hung 8" from the water surface and my tank is 24" deep. Just seems like way too much light. But the SPS is off the hook just a shade or two off.

Any ideas?

I've been running 10X54 (6 bulb Tek5 & 4 bulb Tek5) over my 200 deep dimension (27" deep), for several years. The fixtures are on the Tek5 legs, sitting about 6" above the water. This tank is predominately SPS, but does also have some LPS and Zoanthids. SPS grows great, everywhere in the tank, including on the sand bed. All Zoanthids, Acans and Echinos are on or near the sand bed, except some that are on frag racks, actually near the surface. Everything grows just great!

My bulb configuration consists of:

5 ATI Blue Plus
5 ATI Aquablue Special
alternating.

I started out all T-5 and still have 75% T-5 on my tank. One whole side is lit with a 6 bulb IC660 setup. I went to an all ATI combination by the recomendations of others and haven't liked the results. This time around I went back to closer to what I started with minus one exception... Here it is front to back:

ATI Coral Plus
Geismann true actinic (wanted the UVL actinic plus)
Blue Plus
UVL Aquasun
3xBluePlus

It is more of a 15K color and looks really sharp. I'll know more on color changes after a few months.

Im tagging along also.. Some of my SPS tips are blue, but growth looks good to me. Less than a month running a 8 bulb TEK and just starting to get into SPS..

Here is my combo all ATI

Blue +
Purple +
Actinic 3
Blue +
Coral +
Old bulb - will be changed to Purple +
Old bulb - will be changed to Blue +

I currently have a mixed reef and don't have to hide any of my 68 zoas / palys frags :D
